A musical advent calendar

"Christmas magic and music practice combine"

Are you looking for a fun and engaging way to keep your music students motivated during the holiday season? I love a good advent calendar, and have a family tradition of making a physical calendar filled with activities and treats that change each year. So, I thought, why not bring something similar into my studio! This year I made a Music Practice Advent Calendar! This calendar is designed to transform the often-dreaded daily practice routine into a joyful and rewarding experience. It is suitable for a range of levels and instruments and can be either added to lessons as an activity or sent home to students as a little gift.

What is the Musical Advent Calendar?

My Music Practice Advent Calendar is a downloadable PDF resource that brings a touch of excitement to the days leading up to the holiday season. It's perfect for both in-person and virtual piano lessons, making it a versatile tool for teachers and students.

I've tried to make it with a variety of levels of musicians in mind, and can certainly be tailored to any instrument or skill level.

How does it work?

The concept is simple yet effective. Each day, your students will "unlock" a new practice challenge or musical activity.

These challenges are designed to:

Improve Skills: From sight-reading exercises to ear training challenges, each task is carefully crafted to enhance your students' musical abilities.

Boost Motivation: The element of surprise and the anticipation of daily discoveries will keep your students eager to practice.

Enhance Creativity: We've included fun and creative tasks that encourage your students to explore their musical creativity.

Celebrate the Season: Many of the tasks are inspired by holiday music and traditions, allowing your students to connect with the festive spirit.

Share the joy of music: A few tasks encourage collaboration with others and exploring different genres and cultures. I beleive regardless of level, musical skills should be shared and celebrated.

"I believe regardless of level, musical skills should be shared and celebrated."

How to Prepare the Advent Calendar:

Creating the Music Practice Advent Calendar is a breeze:

1. Download: Simply download the PDF from the download page, and you'll have instant access to the PDF version of the calendar.

2. Print and Assemble: Print the calendar double-sided on short-edge binding. This ensures alignment between the number and task. To ensure durability, consider using laminated sheets or light cardstock.

3. Cut and Enjoy: Use a paper scalpel and ruler to cut along the red dotted lines, separating each day's challenge.

4. Optional: Add a blank backing sheet to reduce peeking. Only glue around the edges and push the sheet together, allow to dry.

5. Use and enjoy: Give it to your student as a gift to use from home, or open up the boxes in lessons as an activity leading to christmas.

Now, I know all you fabulous teachers out there may prefer to alter some of the activities, thats why I have made a purchasable template that can be amended infinitely in Canva, available for purchase from my etsy store. Why choose the editible template?

  • Keep students excited about daily practice as the year end looms

  • Amend to suit students specifically

  • Encourage musical exploration and creativity that matches what lessons have been focusing on

  • Bring more holiday spirit to the lessons

  • Customise to suit your unique teaching style and assignments

G'day, I’m Gemma...

My name is Gemma and I'm really excited you made it to this page. Learning how to grow your business can be complicated and confusing, but not here.

Before I added supplementary income to my music studio, I was a pretty normal music teacher.

Teaching all afternoon and early evening, adding more and more students wherever possible and resigned to the fact that my income would remain very sameish if I kept going the way I was. Well it doesnt need to be that way, take a look around and let me show you how!
